Herbal Tea Smoothie Recipes
Does summer make you think of tasty herb teas? If it doesn't maybe you're just not doing it right. I like to take a little bit of time Sunday evenings to tea prep my tasty treats for the week! That's right, I pre-make teas and chill them in the fridge to use as refreshing drinks or as a base for any smoothie recipe.
When you've got sweet tooth like me it helps to have alternative dessert options you're crazy about to avoid splurging on your local cookie shop. Not only does it save you money, but it's a much healthier way to approach any "diets" to make them not feel like diets, but like actual "life-style changes" or whatever term you use to avoid the "D" word.
The reason why I love herbal tea smoothies for this is because it gives you more flavor than plain water and you can avoid dairy products that can often make you feel sluggish in the heat, or don't blend well with certain fruity flavors. The herb-like taste also gives them their own special zip and is a great way to cut out some of the extra sweetness with bland-ing it down.
Most importantly, TEA IS GOOD FOR YOU. Mint teas are well thought of for their digestive benefits helping to improve the breakdown of food and soothe pain caused by IBS, cramping, and gas. Tilia tea is most commonly taken for cold-like symptoms, to help cough and sore throat as well as headaches. Passionflower tea is a great sedative- that means no operating a vehicle after a glass of that! Chamomile is good for both sleep and indigestion. Adding Lavender to any of these recipes goes a long way, and helps wind down the day with its soothing effects. I can go on and on about the teas I love and the good things they can do for a body. The best thing to do is try them out for yourself and join me in experimenting with all sorts of recipes. Here are three of my favorites so far:
*Note: I like my smoothies a little chunky and a happy medium between thick and thin- something easy to drink down. For thicker consistency add less tea than recommended. For less chunky blend for longer.
